Chapter 331: Chapter 17: Flesh and Blood Heart_3
So in the end, Lorenzo has changed since then; heâs become more human. He wonât grin and say "Hey, long time no see," relying on his thick skin to get by. He feels a bit of guilt and discomfort.
"Did she leave?" Lorenzo asked.
Well, thereâs no need for people to seek unhappiness themselves, if you can avoid it for a while, just do it.
"She left. Looks like sheâs gone on patrol," Pres said.
"Finally able to get up."
Lorenzo said as he stood up from the ground. He wasnât ready to face Eve yet, after almost killing her. In the past, being shameless made him indifferent, but now he felt somewhat âguilty.â
Thinking about it made Lorenzo shiver.
Emotions do give people weaknesses. Itâs unimaginable if someone uses this guilt against him.
But just like tasting forbidden fruit, Lorenzo experienced the joy in it. With Lawrence dead, itâs hard for him to strip away his emotions and become that cold weapon again.
Looking around, the familiar figure was indeed gone. Lorenzo got up to leave.
"Wait, Lorenzo!" Pres grabbed him.
"What?"
"We had an agreement."
Presâs dark circles stared at Lorenzo. If Lorenzo said any nonsense, he wouldnât mind letting Lorenzo experience the anger of a corporate slave.
Lorenzo swallowed, "Alright, alright, I think you do need some sleep. Damn capitalism turns people into ghosts!"
The detective looked pained.
He started rummaging on Presâs desk.
"Are there any cases that need investigation now?"
"Plenty, not enough manpower, too many cases piled up together."
Pres watched Lorenzo flipping through files and asked, "And what does that have to do with my rest?"
"Because we need a grand adventure to cover up your slack time at work."
But Pres shook his head, knowing this wasnât some grand adventure; it was just this detective looking for something to do out of boredom. The so-called case was merely a pretext to fire legally under Ingwigâs laws.
Lorenzo closed his eyes and randomly picked one.
"Youâre the one!"
The detective was overjoyed.
"Alright, my old friend! Letâs get moving! If you walk slowly, I swear Iâll kick your butt with my boot!"
The detectiveâs voice took on a pretentiously profound tone, as if speaking like people from centuries ago.
This voice made Pres uncomfortable, simply put... it was unnerving.
Just like when tormenting the Red Falcon, Lorenzoâs chaotic thoughts were constantly affecting Pres.
"Wait, I still have work here to do!"
"No, detective, youâve been requisitioned! Your job now is to investigate this case with me!" Lorenzo said righteously, then whispered to Pres, "Just going through the motions; once outside, go home and sleep, Iâll do the investigation, and as for the report, Iâll write it well!"
Pres looked at him half-believing, but Lorenzoâs eyes suddenly appeared eerily sincere.
"Alright... alright."
"Now letâs see what case weâve drawn this time..."
Lorenzo said as he flipped through the case he picked, but his smile gradually froze, his eyes turning slightly serious.
A very ordinary case, just a group of fleeing smugglers, but the place they came from made Lorenzo somewhat uncomfortable.
"Smugglers from Florence?"
Lorenzo muttered.
