Chapter 2983: The Sword Heart
The Grand Elder looked Lin Mu in the eyes and spoke.
"This sect owes you a feast worthy of legends. But more than that, it owes you respect. You are not simply a guest anymore. You are the sword that was approved by our legacy itself."
And in that quiet moment, surrounded by elders and the weight of a thousand years of history, Lin Mu simply nodded. His path was long and uncertain, but it was his.
And that made all the difference.
The atmosphere within the Sword Discourse Pavilion was still reverberating with awe.
The tale Lin Mu had just recounted had upended the eldersâ very understanding of the Path of the Sealed Swords. But even more than the number of trials, even more than Daoist Star Slayerâs appearanceâit was the transformation that truly caught their attention.
"Lin Mu..." Grand Elder Huo said at last, voice heavy with interest, "you mentioned something near the end. You attained something. A breakthrough, correct?"
Lin Mu gave a small nod. "Yes. I reached the Sword Heart stage."
Gasps erupted from the seated elders.
Elder Yun Ran one of the elders that had come out of seclusion and had never met Lin Mu before this sat forward, eyes wide. "Are you certain? That level is... itâs not something just anyone can step into even if theyâve gone through the Path."
"I can show you," Lin Mu said simply.
He rose from his seat and stepped into the center of the hall. The disciples standing near the doors instinctively backed away. Even the elders straightened up, some of them subconsciously adjusting their robes, preparing themselves.
Lin Mu closed his eyes. There was no storm of qi, no dramatic flare of sword light. No slashing gales or thundering roars.
Just... silence.
Then, with a soft exhale, Lin Mu let his Sword Heart manifest.
It was a subtle thingâlike a single note resonating across a still lake.
Invisible, inaudible, and yet all-encompassing. The air in the pavilion stilled completely, and all the swords within the hallâthose sheathed at the waists of elders, those displayed on racks for ceremonial purpose, and even those sealed in jade boxes for protectionâall began to hum.
Not violently, not in protest. But in reverence.
It was a quiet vibration, like thousands of swords softly acknowledging a greater will.
Several elders trembled.
Elder Li Feiyanâs hand went to his chest as his sword belt shook slightly, the blade within pressing against its sheath as if longing to be drawn and laid bare before Lin Mu.
"S-such harmony..." another elder whispered, staring as though seeing sword intent for the first time.
Lin Mu opened his eyes again, and the presence disappeared in an instant, like a breath of wind fading into the horizon.
The elders stared at him in stunned silence. Then, slowly, they turned to the Grand Elder.
He was the only one who hadnât reactedâhis sword had not moved. But his eyes shone with undeniable light.
"That," he said softly, almost reverently, "was a Sword Heart."
He stepped forward, arms folded behind his back. "Lin Mu... youâve truly done it."
"Congratulations!" Elder Yan Dao managed, finally finding his voice. "That is a threshold that most sword cultivators chase their entire lives and never reach! Even among us, there are few who can claim to have stepped into that realm."
The elders around him nodded fervently, their awe slowly giving way to admiration.
"Thank you, Elders," Lin Mu said, bowing respectfully. "I feel... different. As if the sword is no longer something I wieldâbut something I live."
"Thatâs exactly what it is," the Grand Elder said with a grin. "But yours... yours is different."
Lin Mu looked up. "Different? In what way?"
The Grand Elder stepped around him slowly, as if observing the lingering essence left behind by the Sword Heart. "Most Sword Hearts are like unsheathed blades. They flare with power, brimming with killing intent, cutting through all doubt. They are wild and furious, or resolute and proud. But yours... it is refined."
The elders murmured in agreement.
"Itâs... composed," Elder Li Feiyan said. "Like a blade that chooses when to be drawn, and never without purpose."
"It doesnât threaten," another added. "It declares."
Lin Mu tilted his head, considering. "Is that... uncommon?"
"Every Sword Heart is different," the Grand Elder replied. "It is the truest reflection of oneâs Sword Dao. Yours seems centered not around dominance or destruction, but understanding and clarity. A sword that cuts not only the enemyâbut through confusion, doubt, and even illusion."
"It felt as if your Sword Heart acknowledged everything around it," Elder Yan Dao said, eyes still glimmering. "And in return, everything acknowledged it."
Lin Mu was quiet for a moment, absorbing their words. "Perhaps... it is because I have walked too many paths. Experienced too many trials. I had to confront all parts of myself. I couldnât force my sword to be only one thing."
"That," the Grand Elder said, nodding in deep approval, "is wisdom far beyond what most immortals learn even after tens of thousands of years."
"Lin Mu," he continued, eyes twinkling now, "you are no longer simply a prodigy. You are one of the pillars of the Sword Dao. Perhaps even its greatest sword yet to come."
A hush followed his words, heavy with the weight of prophecy.
And then, with a short exhale, the Grand Elder smiled.
"But donât let it go to your head just yet. You still owe me that spar."
Lin Mu grinned. "I remember. But Iâm not done growing. Once I emerge from the Sacred Ground... Iâll be ready."
The Grand Elder chuckled. "Good. Iâll be waiting. And when we do clash, itâll have to be in a wasteland. The sect might not survive otherwise."
The hall burst into soft laughter at that.
But deep in their hearts, every elder knew the truth.
The Path of the Sealed Swords had tested Lin Mu as no one before himâand he had emerged not just whole, but transformed. He was no longer just the honored guest of the Xian Sword Sect.
He was the edge that had refined their legacy.
